Discover Coconut Sugar
Working collectively with local Indonesian farmers, our farmers delicately “tap” the unopened flower buds of coconut palm trees oozing with fragrant coconut nectar. Tapping the trees, a method similar to collecting maple syrup, releases nectar that is already inherently sweet, requiring minimal processing unlike conventional syrups. When our coconut trees have reached peak maturity, only then are they tapped for luscious syrup. Viva Naturals processes our sap immediately upon collection, obtaining a better quality sugar and decadently sweet flavor. Moisture content is reduced by evaporating water, which concentrates sugars until an optimal level of sweetness is achieved. Relish in the wholesomeness of our delectable golden crystals, sure to sweeten up all your favorite recipes
What is Coconut Sugar? - Unlike table sugar, coconut sugar is unrefined, maintaining all the nutritional elements that are normally destroyed during industrial processing. Aesthetically it is comparable to brown and cane sugar, with no comparison in quality and taste. The subtle, yet delectable caramel flavor of coconut sugar offers a unique variation from common household sweeteners, serving as an ideal replacement to refined white sugar spoon-for-spoon, cup-for-cup.
Low-Glycemic - Coconut Sugar is a low-glycemic sweetener that has been shown to support healthy blood sugar balance. A study published by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute compared the glycemic indexes of both coconut sugar and table sugar on a scale of 100, indicating a value of 35 and 60, respectively. Viva Naturals Organic Coconut Sugar is a one-to-one ratio with table sugar, helping you to achieve the same sweetness without the corresponding sugar spike.
Unrefined - Because coconut sugar is unrefined, it maintains essential nutrients like calcium, potassium, iron and zinc. A study published by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute indicated that coconut sugar had roughly double of the amount of iron compared to ordinary table sugar in a 100g serving. Iron is vital for red blood cell formation, improving energy levels, brain function and muscle health.
Paleo Sweetener - Paleo sweeteners consist of sugars that are found in nature, which remain unaltered and unrefined. Our coconut sugar will help satisfy your sweet tooth without any guilty consequence.
Sustainably Grown and Harvested - According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), coconut sugar is one of the most sustainably harvested sweeteners in the world. Coconut palms require very little water and produce up to 75% more sugar than sugar cane, while using up to 20% less soil nutrients and water. Additionally, research conducted at the Davao Research Center in the Philippines reported that coconut palms are in fact able to produce both coconuts and coconut sugar, despite the controversy.
Product Description: Coconut sugar replaces white sugar at a 1:1 ratio - so simply swap it into your favorite recipes, no calculations necessary.

How We're Different
To produce Viva Naturals’ Organic Coconut Sugar, local farmers “tap” the unopened flowers of coconut palm trees, oozing with sweet coconut nectar. Prior to heating, the sap is poured through a strainer, ensuring all waste matter is removed. Viva Naturals processes the sap immediately after collection, obtaining a better quality sugar and sweet flavor. The sap then undergoes a reduction process under heat, evaporating unwanted moisture, leaving you with pure, granulated organic coconut sugar.
