4 Ways to Enjoy Goji Berries

Used in Traditional Chinese Medicine and harvested from the Himalayan region for centuries, goji berries are a delicious dried fruit with a chewy, raisin-like consistency and a sweet, and slightly tart, taste. They’ve become a popular superfood in the Western world as their nutrition profile boasts a powerful punch. High in fiber, with a good source of iron and low in fat, bright red goji berries make an excellent choice for adding more color and variety to the food you eat.

Here are 4 of our favorite ways to enjoy goji berries:

1. Bake 'em

Craving a sweet treat? Add some goji berries into your next breakfast cookie. Cookies can be healthy. Right? Right. A chewy superfood cookie can be enjoyed for breakfast, as a snack or even dessert when you add goji berries into the mix. Do be aware that as a dried fruit, goji berries have already been dried so you don’t want to over-bake them or they’ll dry out and harden. If baking homemade granola, for example, add the berries in after you’ve baked the granola for a chewy treat that won’t hurt your teeth!

2. Mix 'em

Speaking of mix, make an easy at-home trail mix with a handful of goji berries, nuts, seed, coconut flakes, and dark chocolate chips! Or, mix them into your oatmeal, cereal, or yogurt parfaits. They add a nice pop of color and a touch of sweetness that’s perfect for balancing out your morning meals and afternoon snacks.

3. Blend 'em

Throw some goji berries into your high-speed blender for colorful smoothies and homemade ice cream. Coconut, almonds, oats, and banana complement the flavor of gojis nicely, and don’t forget to throw in some greens too! The sweet, tart flavor of the goji berries will mask any bitterness from your spinach or kale — so add a generous amount!

4. Steep 'em

Yes, these multi-purpose berries can be turned into tea! Add a handful of berries to hot water or herbal tea and let them steep for up to ten minutes. Since they’re dried fruit, the berries will actually soak up some of the liquid, rehydrating them into plump, juicy berries. Now enjoy sipping your goji-flavoured tea and eating the plump berries, too.
