How to Get the Most Out of Your Sheet Masks

Sheet masks are a fun and convenient at-home skincare (and self-care) treatment. They’re easy to use — just place it on your face for 15 minutes then toss in the garbage after use...super simple! But if it feels wasteful to have to throw out a mask after one use, there are a few things you can do. No one wants to throw money down the drain, and in times like these, it’s important to get the most out of what you pay for and limit waste.

While we don’t recommend you reuse a sheet mask, since you run the risk of reintroducing dirt and grime to your skin, there are other ways to make the most of your serum-soaked sheet masks. Here are four tips and tricks to really get your entire money’s worth from the sheet masks you buy:

cleanse face

Cleanse First

To reap the benefits of a facemask, you need to prep your skin first. Cleansing is a good idea pre-mask to remove dirt and oil build-up from your skin. Have some time to also exfoliate? Even better! Using a gentle face scrub can help slough off dead skin cells which will really help to open up your pores. This prepares your skin to actually absorb the saturated serum from the sheet mask, so that the mask you apply doesn’t go to waste.

facial roller

Tool Time

Once you have cleansed skin, you’re ready to apply the sheet mask. But don’t just let it sit on your face for 10 minutes. During this time, gently press the mask into your face so that the serum gets absorbed. If you have a jade roller, gently roll over the mask to help the serum set into your skin. You’ll really get the most of your mask when you use a skin tool to gently press the product into your face.

lock in moisture

Lock It In

Super-soaked serum provides moisture and nourishment for your skin. But if you have super-dry skin or live in a dry climate, that moisture could easily evaporate off your face. After removing the mask, apply a moisturizer or facial oil to help lock in the moisture from the serum. If you want to make the most of your sheet mask, you don’t want to miss this step!

use serum

Save the Serum

Sheet masks almost always have extra serum in the packet. So it doesn't all go to waste, gently squeeze the excess out of your mask while it's still in the pouch. After you remove your sheet mask to use it on your face, you can use the rest of the serum from the pouch on other parts of your body. Massage the excess serum into your neck, chest, hands, or even feet.

If you’d rather save the serum to use on your face, pour the remaining serum into an airtight container or secure the pouch with a rubber band. Place the stored serum in the fridge to keep it fresh and apply to your skin within a few days. This is a great way to help your face mask go the extra mile, by saving the serum for any extra use!

Easy to apply and full of soothing serum, sheet masks are a great product for your skincare routine. Make the most out of your mask’s serum with these hot tips and tricks — make each drop last! How do you make your skincare products last? Share below.
